30 DAY LIL’ KIM CHALLENGE - DAY 6: FIRST SONG YOU EVER HEARD

Crush on you by Lil’ Kim / Lil’ Cease
Man, this takes me back all the way to ‘97 when this song was really popular. The chorus was so damn catchy and my brother and I would always joke about the “TRUE” part of the song. The video would always be on television and it really stands out in my mind because the video was so colorful and vivid. Kim’s flow and verse was phenomenal, I really think this is one of her more underrated verses.

30 DAY LIL’ KIM CHALLENGE - DAY 5: FAVORITE MUSIC VIDEO

Whoa - The Naked Truth (2006)

This would have to be my all-time favorite video by Kim. It’s probably strange for THIS particular video to be anyone’s favorite because this video didn’t have as big of a budget as her other music videos. In Countdown to Lockdown, they even showed how they didn’t have a permit to shoot the scene of Kim walking out of the courthouse. But I just love the concept of this video and how she made this tie into her entire situation of going to prison. Plus, I’m obsessed with the movie National Treasure, and I like to this of this as Secret-Agent Kimmy stealing the Declaration of Independence.

DAY 4: FAVORITE ERA image The Notorious K.I.M. Era
The NK era is Lil’ Kim in her prime for me! From her outfits to her apperances, to her feature verses, everything was flawless to me! This particular era is what set her aside from all the other rappers, and female rappers especially. She broke down barriers and crossed over into certain markets making it possible for female rappers now to do the things that she has done. She was one of the first female rappers to have those high-caliber endorsements (MAC Cosmetics, Candie’s) making it possible for future female rappers to do the same.

30 DAY LIL’ KIM CHALLENGE - DAY 3: FAVORITE PERFORMANCE

The Chris Rock Show - 09/30/00
She performed Custom Made (Give It To You), fresh off of her album The Notorious K.I.M. which was released a few months earlier. This performance had the perfect amount of sexy, gangsta, dance moves, you name it. She looked and sounded great and was able to keep the crowd hype. I would have to say that she was the epitome of Lil’ Kim in this performance for me.

30 DAY LIL’ KIM CHALLENGE - DAY 2: FAVORITE SONG

Money Talks by Lil’ Kim / Andrea Martin / Lil’ Cease
I only discovered this song a few months ago but it is seriously one of Kim’s best tracks, in my opinion. The song was written for the movie, Money Talks with Chris Tucker and Charlie Sheen. What I love the most about it is that it has that strong storytelling element that a lot of 90’s hip-hop was famous for. Everything about this track is just perfect to me! From Timbaland’s beat, to Kim’s secret-agent type of story, to her flow…everythis is just PERFECT.

30 Day Lil’ Kim Challenge

DAY 1: FAVORITE LIL KIM ALBUM image

My favorite Lil’ Kim album would have to be The Notorious K.I.M. It’s such a timeless and ground-breaking album to me. A lot of her tracks from that album, even some of her unreleased material from the bootleg, sounds like songs that you would hear on the radio today - which really shows how ahead of her time Kim was. That album even had work from Kanye West (Don’t Mess With Me) back when he was first starting out with producing.

Everything from her flow, her lyrics, her image, and her tracks are just perfect to me. I only wish some of her unreleased songs from that album would be released in a higher quality because they’re straight FIRE.
